I recently found a copy of PFS' Hand of the Rider lp, catalog # P.F.S. 1. No mention of Rot Records anywhere, is this one a boot? It does say dist. by the cartel on the back, so that leads me to believe that it's not the recent reissue. Any help is appreciated...

it is the original/bootleg Lp released by ROT records 1985 without permission
that's why the cat# is P.F.S 1 and not ASS 19 (as I suppose the cat# would have been if released officially on ROT)

interesting. i heard from a couple of sources that the lp was released by rot, so i was thrown off by the p.f.s. 1 cat. #. but it's all so clear now, those tricksters... a wonderful piece of wax anyway. thanks for the help

Did the band say it was released without permission? I hadn't heard that one but then the band were making a load of allegations at one point so maybe I missed that one. Their version IIRC was that there was a pressing on so-so and rot (at least 4 or 5000 copies sold)and later on (maybe in the 90's) there was a bootleg version pressed by someone in the States (on purple vinyl? I've never seen one of those for sale tho'). The only copies i've ever seen are as described in the first post here so that's the original and only pressing as far as i'm concerned until someone proves otherwise.....apart from the recent PFS reissue of course I know Dunk had started putting out comp LP's from around mid 80's onwards without bands permission and changing the cat numbers to make them look like they werent on rot so maybe the PFS LP was the same???.....anyway it's a very hard to find and great LP, one of the best of the 80's, no mistake about that

yeah there were some discussions about that lp on the old forum about Dunk released it without their permission, and there was some legal shit about that some years ago, which PFS won and they got the pressing plates back and repressed it and so on...
from their own site:
(http://www.pictureframeseduction.com/discog1.htm) Hand of the Rider - Initially planned as a 12 " this developed in to an LP when SO SO Records saw the benefits in releasing 16 tracks as opposed to 8 and making a few pounds. However, SO SO were in extreme difficulty financially, and sold the tapes to Duncan Mason from Rot Records who signed the band for a one off release. In September 1985 the album finally came out on an original pressing of 2,000. And later a further pressing of 1,000. It is strongly suspected that along with dodgy sales figures that SO SO released this as well, or somebody got a hold of it and the LP ended up all over the place, especially in the USA. A contact at Alt Tentacles has stated it sold 350 in the bay area during September and October 1985. Bootlegged in blue vinyl in 1989, and really treated as a bastard until some Austrian collector stated ' This album is a Punk Rock classic ' Since then it has been treated with more respect and especially in Europe is widely available for those with quite a few pounds / Euros available. More finger pointing pro life / animal welfare tracks and a subtle warning about tyrants who invade countries for oil and money. mmmmmm, nice idea, but it will never work.
