Did you know that there are TWO pressings of this LP on ABCD. The cover and labels are the same, but the matrix numbers are different - LMNOP1 A1/B1 and LMNOP1 A2/B2.
They have different versions of the 'Animal' track.
When I first heard this album in 1983/4, it had been copied to cassette. I loved it and bought my own copy ... which had a different version of Animal. Only now have I got myself a copy of the first pressing. I mentioned this difference to the band when I saw them back in 1983/4, and was told that it was re-recorded for "legal reasons".
The differences are the lyrics. The second version starts off with "Hello Mrs Shaw ... can I borrow your lawnmower". The first pressing does not have this, one of the lines of the chorus is "I'm a child molester", rather than "I'm your next door neighbour" and the bit starting "I dream of naked ladies leaping over me ..." is different.
I don't know what version is on the CD and other repressings ... but you guys might ...

I knew that there were 2 different versions, but I never knew how to tell the difference. Thanks for clearing that up Lyndon. The only versions I have ever heard had the child molester line in it, but you post itn't clear as to which version has that. so I would assume that the is the most common pressing. I think ABCD yanked it due to some censourship stuff that was going on at the time, especially as the first 7" was supposedly recalled.

if they cencored the LMNOP1 A1/B1 it would make sense if the cencored version got the matrix as LMNOP1 A2/B2... Just saw yesterday that my Riot/Clone - blood on your hands 7" have the matrix numbers A7/B7

Just saw yesterday that my Riot/Clone - blood on your hands 7" have the matrix numbers A7/B7 Something like 5k of them pressed though. You can't really tell what pressing any of them are, except for stickers or writing updating contact or info details. I think it may have been one big pressing.

I remember when my high school band covered Animal, first time we played it live I noticed the singer was singing the "I'm a child molester" line, and as I only had the other censored version (which seems more common in the US) and didn't know about the other version, I just thought to myself, christ he really is a sick bastard! Now I only have the uncensored one and want to pick up a censored copy cheap. Does the uncensored have the dark-red print on black labels as well? I could've sworn my old censored copy had white text on black labels, but I'm not 100% sure. I always found it weird too that this LP, with all the fanfare it received and the resulting success of it, never came with any sort of insert.

My two copies are identical in every way to look at ... until you look at those matrix numbers.

I keep forgetting to check my copy here, but I always recall "I'm an Animal" including the line "I;m a child molester"
