ok, so I have been vinyless for a while, stereo and moving problems, all is settled, I have a home & my records are out of storage... But i have noticed that I have a problem. A pretty serious problem. A very scary problem. Several years ago I invested in nice, expensive, vinyl protective sleeves. I have always hated the dodgy plastic ones cuz they mist and just look like shit. Si I started putting all my records in nice pretty protective sleeves. Now... looking through my records, I'm noticing a problem. The sleeves on some of the older (read rarer) are sticking to the protective sleeve, mainly on the photocopied sleeves. The scariest one I have encountered is my Heimat Los/Kromozon 4 spilt, where I can't even take the cover out of the sleeve without ripping half the toner of and leaving it stuck to the sleeve. Most of my records & sleeves are in really good shape, but this almost instantly turns the sleeves from NM to barely good... This is really upsetting me... a lot! and it's not just that single, there are lots of them like that, I have a Casualties promo 7" from 96 or something with a colour copied sleeve and the same shit is happening... The list goes on and on and on.... me a sad upstart....

i know what you're talking about. it's those 'luxury' bags (i think they're called that) they smell just like the star wars toys did when new (late 70's / early 80's memory ;D ) i've had problems with them as well, and only use standard bags and try to replace the worst ones when finding a bunch of new ones cheap. I also hate those that can be closed with a stripe of glue Hope You didn't have ALL Your records in those?

Josh, I hear you, many people had the same problem with heavy PVC sleeves... I had the exact same problem with my Heimatlos / Krz 4 split 7", the ink getting stuck on the cover.... Only solution is to get rid of these PVC sleeves, cos not only the covers suffer of it, but it seems that they can even damage the RECORDS themselves... getting thm all shady and full of static noise when you listen to them....

The pvc only reacts with the carbon in black vinyl,so coloured vinyl/picture discs should be ok,i am ditching all mine though slowly, anyone one know a cheap uk online supplier for the normal plastic bags not the oversized thin shit you get on ebay, but the thicker snug size?

snug isn't always good. esp with the older stuff which doesn't have a standardised sleeve. That said, lemme know if you find something.
